Studies that have been conducted have shown that lower limb amputees generally expend more of their energy when it comes to walking and avoiding obstacles in their path. They will spend more energy for these purposes as compared to able bodied individuals. This same study also showed that MPKs are more efficient than non-MPKs.
All of this comes down to the fact that a patient will be able to walk better and will be safer as they walk with the new microprocessor-controlled knees.
