12 historic and symbolic pictures of the 20th century,

August 7, 1930 Lawrence Beitler photograph Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith, two African-Americans lynched to death by the mob and hanged to a tree. Since then the photographer has sold thousands of copies of the image and inspired a poem called committed Strange Fruit. This image is a symbol in the fight against racial segregation.

Thích Quang Đức immolated himself in Saigon on June 11, 1963 in the middle of an intersection of roads when they were occupied by protesters He protested against the persecution of Buddhists by the South Vietnamese government of Ngo Dinh Diem. Pictures of his suicide shocked the world and attracted the attention of police on the Diem regime.

The Falling Man was taken by Richard Drew at 9:41 on the morning of 11 September 2001. This photograph appeared in Esquire magazine in September 2003 and was then the subject of a film. The identity of the man in the photo is still unknown ..........

November 13, 1985 in Armero, Colombia region, the Nevado del Ruiz volcano erupts. Omaira Sánchez is caught in a trap in the water, concrete and other debris for three days before dying. The photograph was taken by Frank Fournier shortly before his death.

This horrific photo shows a starving Sudanese child stalked by a vulture. Kevin Carter won the Pulitzer Prize for this photo. He was criticized for spending 20 minutes to shoot rather than help the child. Three months after taking the photo, he committed suicide.

This photo was taken at the Nasir Bagh refugee camp in Pakistan after the bombing of Afghanistan by the Soviet Union. This image is then appeared on the cover of National Geographic in June 1985. The identity of the girl remained unknown for more than 17 years, until 2002 when a team from National Geographic's gone to Afghanistan to find her.

June 5, 1989, protesters occupy Tiananmen Square in Beijing. While China's military defense strengthens, a brave man remains motionless against the tanks. To this day his identity and location are unknown.

On 8 June 1972 the United States jettison a Napalm bomb on Trang Bang. This photo shows the victims of the bomb, fleeing the devastated area. Nick Ut won numerous awards for this photo, including the Pulitzer Prize

This photo is the fall of Germany at the end of the Second World War, it shows a Red Army soldier waving a flag over the Reichstag. The original photograph of the raising of the flag took place April 30, 1945 at 22:40, but the image is too dark a picture taken Khaldei May 2 with two previously selected soldiers.

Alberto Korda's photograph of Che Guevara has become a symbol of 2Oème century. This photo was taken while Che was attending a memorial service for the victims of the explosion of the curve. Found this image on the banknote 3 Cuban pesos.

On 4 May 1970, members of the National Guard of Ohio pull in a crowd of demonstrators at the University of Kent leaving four dead and nine wounded. The impact of the shootings was dramatic. The event triggered a general student strike in the country which forced some colleges and universities to close.
